DAYA Center is a rebranding of Dompet Dhuafa USA’s education program: HOLA (House of Learning). DAYA Center stands for Development and Advancement for Youth in Action Center but the word DAYA also has a deeper meaning in Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia).

According to the Official Indonesian Dictionary published by Republic of Indonesia, DAYA means (1) an ability to do something or to act; (2) power, energy (that makes things moving); (3) tricks, strategy; (4) intellect, initiative, endeavor. We envision an empowered and sustainable community with justice and prosperity. The vision is included in Dompet Dhuafa’s mission statement, “Building an empowered world society through relief, advocacy, and empowerment.”

By rebranding HOLA (often mistaken for ‘hello’ in Spanish) to DAYA Center, we –as an Indonesian/Indonesian-American community-based organization, want to contribute to the larger society, especially in the Delaware Valley area but at the same time honor our roots.

DAYA Center will focus on children and youth development and education. However, DAYA Center services are not merely for children and youth. We also have multiple programs for adults such as through our ESOL programs, Computer Literacy and Workshops. DAYA Center will support children and youth on personal and leadership development. With our unique identity as Indonesian and Indonesian-Americans, DAYA Center seeks to  strengthen identity of our young people, develop their understanding on social justice, shape their leadership skills with vision that they will be agents of change.
