pssa tryouts, daya center

Rio Tan is very optimistic now. He just finished his PSSA Tryouts at DAYA Center. “He is not nervous anymore after seeing the tryouts’ results” says Rio’s mother. Rio is one of the 750,000 students in Pennsylvania who will take the PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment). The state-wide examination seeks to assess students, teachers and schools performance in relation to the state’s academic standard in English Language Arts, Mathematics & Science.

On Thursday April 5th and Saturday April 7th, DAYA Center hosted PSSA Tryouts for 3rd & 4th graders. The purpose of the tryout is to gauge the readiness of the students who will be taking the PSSA.

For many students and parents, the PSSA is important as it is one of the factors looked at by school administrators during the school selection process. This process determines where that student will go to Middle School the following year. If an elementary school ends at 5th grade then that student’s 4th grade PSSA will be used to consider for middle school application.

The 8 students that participated took the practice test on Thursday and on Saturday returned to work with tutors on the subject and questions they need to work on.

As an education program of Dompet Dhuafa USA, DAYA Center is committed to learning advancements for our students and are planning on hosting more tryouts in the future.
