At Dompet Dhuafa USA (DD USA), our mission is to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development through community empowerment. Since our establishment in 2014, we have focused on providing humanitarian aid, educational support, and fostering economic independence, both in the United States and Indonesia. A recent milestone in our journey was our participation in the Silaturahim Online Dunia (SOD), a global event that connects Indonesian communities worldwide. This event marked a significant step in expanding our outreach and strengthening our global presence.
Our Participation in Silaturahim Online Dunia (SOD)
Our participation in SOD represents a crucial milestone in DD USA’s mission to expand its global network. As an organization dedicated to empowering communities, we believe in the importance of building connections across borders. The SOD event provided us with a platform to introduce DD USA to a global audience, share our vision and programs, and foster stronger relationships with the Indonesian diaspora worldwide. During this event, we were proud to be represented by Sigit Aryo Pambudi, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Our Journey: A Brief Overview of Dompet Dhuafa USA
DD USA was founded in January 2014, inspired by the spirit of solidarity within Indonesian communities in the United States following natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and the EF-5 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, in 2013. These events galvanized Indonesian communities in New York and Philadelphia to come together and provide humanitarian aid, ultimately leading to the establishment of a formal organization dedicated to helping those in need.
Since then, DD USA has expanded its programs and initiatives across both the United States and Indonesia. In 2019, we moved our headquarters from Philadelphia to the Washington, DC metro area to better serve our growing network. In 2024, DD USA launched several impactful initiatives that have benefited over 7,800 individuals, including distributing 468 Qurans to incarcerated individuals, offering scholarships to more than 200 students, and providing thousands of meals to underserved communities.
Key Programs and Impact
At DD USA, we are committed to creating a lasting impact through various programs that address both immediate and long-term needs. Here are some of the key initiatives we’ve been able to carry out in 2024:
In the United States:
- Quran for Prisoners – Since its inception, this program has focused on distributing translated Qurans to Muslim inmates in U.S. prisons. In 2024 alone, we distributed 468 copies of the Quran, ensuring that incarcerated individuals have access to essential Islamic educational materials.
- Halaqah Across America – In 2024, the theme of this halaqah is a financial literacy, designed to educate Muslim communities in USA and Canada on wealth management according to Islamic principles. The program has helped 450 participants improve their financial knowledge and make informed decisions.
- Refugee Assistance – DD USA provides vital support to Afghan refugees, offering food packages and essential supplies to ease their transition into new lives. This program is a crucial part of our commitment to providing humanitarian assistance during times of crisis.
- Ramadan and Eid Programs – Every year, DD USA organizes initiatives to support underprivileged families during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. We distributed Zakat Fitrah, provided Iftar meals, and facilitated Qurban initiatives, enabling thousands of families to participate in these sacred moments.
In Indonesia:
In collaboration with Branches of Dompet Dhuafa in Indonesia, we have continued to implement impactful programs in 2024. Some of our key initiatives include:
- Tebar Hewan Qurban – We continue to distribute qurban animals to several regions, including Palestine, to provide nutritious meals for families during Eid al-Adha.
- Educational Scholarships – Through the Youth Ekselensia program, we provide financial support to outstanding students, helping to empower the next generation of leaders.
- Healthcare Assistance – DD USA supports Counseling House Aku Temanmu, a mental health counseling center in Banten, which offers vital psychological services to individuals in need.
- Infrastructure Projects – In 2024, we supported the renovation of Masjid Ar-Ridlo, helping to provide lasting benefits to local communities.
Looking Ahead: Our Vision for 2025
As we look to the future, DD USA is focused on expanding the reach and impact of our programs. Our goals for 2025 include:

- Building new partnerships with like-minded organizations and volunteers to enhance our collective impact and achieve even greater social change.
