For many of us, Qurbani is a sacred act of devotion. It reflects obedience, gratitude, and compassion. Beyond the ritual itself, there are quiet and powerful stories from those whose lives are touched by this act of giving.

In a small village called Kiwang Ebang, on the eastern shores of Solor Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Mama Ratna (60) shared her daily reality with gentle honesty. For her, meat is not a regular part of life. It is something remembered and longed for.

“For our daily needs, we save for days just to buy rice. Sometimes we endure hunger or fast. We usually eat fish, corn crackers, or even just rice with water. So yes, receiving Qurbani meat makes us happy. It comes only once a year,” she said.

Her words carry a quiet weight. What may feel routine to some is deeply meaningful to others.

A similar sense of joy was felt in Bitorik Village, Maluku. After 26 years without experiencing the spirit of Eid al-Adha through Qurbani, the community was finally able to celebrate again. Through Dompet Dhuafa’s Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) program, nine cows and one goat were delivered to the village. It brought not only meat, but also a renewed sense of unity and gratitude.

“When people heard that Qurbani animals were coming, they were overjoyed, especially in such numbers. But we didn’t want to keep it to ourselves. We shared the meat with neighboring villages as well,” said Muhammad Yasin.

This is the essence of Qurbani. It is not only about receiving, but also about sharing. It is not only about fulfilling an obligation, but about spreading mercy.

Among the nationwide effort, 2,180 families across nine provinces were directly reached through focused distributions. This was made possible by donors from Dompet Dhuafa USA alone.

The impact on the ground was clear:

  • 6 cows and 1 share (equivalent to 1/7 of a cow) distributed to 430 families
  • 139 goats distributed to 1,750 families

These sacrificial animals were delivered with care to areas often left out of sight. They reached the heartlands of Maluku, the mountainous regions of East Nusa Tenggara, and quiet hamlets across East Java.

Each distribution carried more than nourishment. It brought dignity, hope, and a reminder that they are not forgotten.

Your Qurbani, Their Joy

Qurbani is not measured by the size of the animal, but by the sincerity of the intention behind it. For communities like Mama Ratna’s and the people of Bitorik, your Qurbani is more than a ritual. It is relief, celebration, and a rare moment of abundance.

This Eid al-Adha, let your sacrifice travel further. Let it reach those who wait an entire year for a simple taste of what many consider ordinary.

Through Dompet Dhuafa USA, your Qurbani can become a source of barakah that extends beyond borders. It can touch lives, strengthen communities, and fulfill a trust that Allah has placed upon us.

Because sometimes, a single act of giving becomes someone else’s once-in-a-year happiness.
